Professional counseling offers effective help in addressing stubborn problems. Everyone becomes “stuck” at some point in their lives. Relationships can be frustrating, and emotional issues can be overwhelming when we either do not know what to do or lack the focus needed to stick with a plan of action over the long term. Counseling offers a safe place to discuss highly sensitive concerns and to implement plans that empower people to make lasting change. Read more...
As a mental health professional, it has been my pleasure to provide care to people in Nebraska for over forty years. I entered the field as an addiction counselor working exclusively with the chemically dependent. While observing people imprisoned in patterns of repetitive behavior, I became aware of the healing potential of treatment, twelve step programs and group support. I found that solutions were available for even the most destructive, life-controlling problems. While serving in facilities where I consulted with physicians, psychiatrists and other health care specialists, I learned that emotional and medical problems are frequently interrelated.
Many of my clients seek counseling that is sensitive to their spiritual beliefs and draws upon disciplines that are part of their faith practice. As a Christian, I have a special appreciation for such preferences and understand that trust between a counselor and counselee may grow more naturally in a context of shared spiritual values. As a psychologist, I have experience helping people distinguish spiritual needs from those that primarily require clinical solutions.
I have had specialized training in sex addiction treatment, neuropsychology, geriatrics, marriage counseling and other areas. I have found the following counseling methods to be especially helpful: cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)”, twelve-step facilitation, Gottman’s marriage model, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), the Immanuel Approach and Christian counseling.
Please contact me for any additional information or with any questions you may have. It will be my pleasure to serve you.
